Nike's Free and Flyknit technology has completely influenced nearly every aspect of its vast catalog in some way shape or form. The current Flyknit technology lends itself to some of the biggest shoes out there including Kobe 9, Magista Obra Soccer cleats and the many different silhouettes in the Nike Running and Sportswear lineups like the Flyknit Chukka, Racer and Lunar. The originator to the "Free" feel that the Flyknit technology provides has to be traced back to the various innovative shoes from Nike's past that based everything off comfort first and everything second. The original Nike Presto, Free Run, Sock Racer and classic Air Rift.
Last years Free Flyknit didn't receive as much love as it really deserved if you ask us which is more than likely based of the extremely tight fit and overall feel of the shoe since it used a completely sock like feel on the upper using absolutely no tongue at all. This years batch of Free Flyknit's have a little more versatility to them with three different versions being the 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0. Our favorite from the bunch is the 4.0 which we were lucky enough to get our hands on in the stunning White/Black/Volt colorway. The shoe definitely redeems itself when you talk about the tight fit feel of last years model thanks to Nike building a more traditional tongue into the shoe with the 4.0 which a lot of people are going to appreciate.
Comfort wise the shoe is just outstanding with great marshmallow cushioning throughout the shoe from heal to toe there really isn't anywhere you can complain on this shoe when it comes to straight comfort right out the box. Fit and feel seemed to be true to size which is also another difference from last years version since most people were in need of a half size larger shoe because of the previously covered tight fit. Overall we can't rave enough about this years Free Flyknit 4.0. With the improvements they have made compared to last years shoe paired with the Flex Groove outsole enhancing the already flexible free technology to the next level this shoe is a definite must have.
